Maryland Expands Loan Repayment Programs to More Healthcare Professionals

A larger pool of healthcare workers is now eligible to apply for education loan repayments in exchange for service obligations under the Maryland Loan Repayment Programs (MLRP). Awards ranging from $5,000 to $100,000 (depending on licensure) are available to full and part-time physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and nursing support staff in 2023. The application deadline is April 15.

The programs are intended to improve recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals, particularly in areas of the state that are experiencing shortages of doctors, nurses, and support staff. The repayment programs, including the State Loan Repayment Program (SLRP), the Maryland Loan Assistance Repayment Program (MLARP) for Physicians and Physician Assistants and the MLARP for Nurses and Nursing Support Staff, are funded with federal and state resources. The programs are administered by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH).
